Say "S13" and most people picture one car. It's actually two - and a bumper built for one won't go anywhere near an unmodified other. Here's how to tell them apart, what's actually available for each, and the fitment mix-up we get asked about more than anything else on this platform.

Quick Answer - Silvia and 180SX Are Not the Same Car
Nissan built two genuinely different production bodies on the S13-generation platform between 1988 and 1998:
- Silvia: fixed headlights, notchback coupe with a boot. Sold in Japan and privately imported into Australia - Nissan never delivered an S13 Silvia here new.
- 180SX: pop-up headlights, fastback hatchback. A genuinely different rear end and roofline to the Silvia, not a trim variant of it.
They share an engine bay, a floor pan and the S13-generation platform. They do not share a front bumper, front guards, front grille, rear quarter panels, rear bumper or roof spoiler - each of those is a different mould for each body, confirmed directly in our own product fitment notes across every one of those categories. If you only remember one thing from this guide, remember that "it's an S13" is not enough information to order a bumper.

What You're Actually Buying
None of the names above - Type X, Uras, M-Sport, BN Sports, Instant Gentleman, Nismo - are ours, and we're not claiming they are. Every one is our own hand-laid woven FRP interpretation of a look that originated with a Japanese specialist shop or Nissan's own motorsport division, built to order at our Coopers Plains workshop, not a licensed reproduction of anyone else's design.
That distinction matters more than it sounds. It means what you're paying for is the look, built locally with local fitment support if something needs adjusting - not an imported part from a shop on the other side of the world with no local presence if it doesn't sit right first time.
The Mix-Up We Hear About Most
"They're both S13s, so surely the bumper's the same?" No - and this is the single most common wrong assumption on this platform. A Silvia coupe and a 180SX hatchback share a chassis code but genuinely different front and rear sheet metal. Our own listings confirm this directly across front bumper, front guards, front grille, rear quarter panels, rear bumper and roof spoiler. For an unmodified, factory-body car, a bumper built for one will not sit correctly on the other. The one exception is a car that's already had a full front-end conversion between the two bodies - a deliberate, separate modification, not something to assume from the chassis code alone.
What do S13, PS13, RS13 and RPS13 actually mean? These are engine-and-body suffixes, confirmed directly against Nissan's own Heritage Collection archive - not separate chassis. "R" flags the 180SX fastback specifically (RS13 = 180SX with the CA18 engine, confirmed on Nissan's own archive page for the 180SX Type II). "P" flags the later SR20 engine (PS13 = Silvia with SR20; RPS13 = 180SX with SR20). Plain S13 on its own is Nissan's code for the CA18 Silvia, though you'll also see it used loosely for the whole platform, as this guide does in its title. Either way, none of it changes which bumper fits - that's still governed entirely by Silvia-versus-180SX body, not the engine or the suffix letter.
Engine swaps don't change the answer either. This is one of the most swapped platforms we sell for - CA18-to-SR20DET, SR20-to-RB25 and LS swaps are all common. None of that affects which bumper fits. Fitment comes entirely from the body shell, not what's under the bonnet - several of our own listings explicitly confirm the same bumper suits both CA18DET and SR20DET cars, because the swap doesn't touch the panel gaps.
"200SX" and "240SX" aren't one fixed answer either. A European S13-era 200SX is a rebadged 180SX hatchback. An Australian-delivered S14 or S15-era 200SX (within this S13-S15 family, the only generations Nissan officially sold new here) is a rebadged Silvia coupe. Ask the generation before assuming the body from that badge alone.
Side skirts get a more careful answer from us on purpose. Genuine Silvia and 180SX side skirts are different shapes, but some aftermarket brands sell "universal" S13 skirts that blur that line. We'd rather tell you we're checking than promise a fit we're not certain of - if you're between styles, ask us before ordering rather than guessing from a product title alone.

S13 Silvia & 180SX FAQs
What's the difference between a Nissan S13 Silvia and a 180SX?
They share the S13 chassis code but are different production bodies. The Silvia is a fixed-headlight notchback coupe with a boot. The 180SX is a pop-up headlight fastback hatchback. On an unmodified car, their factory front and rear panels are different and should not be assumed interchangeable.
Will a 180SX front bumper fit a Silvia, since they're both S13s?
No. Even though both share the S13 chassis code, the Silvia coupe and 180SX hatchback have different front-end shapes. A 180SX-specific bumper will not sit correctly on a Silvia, and vice versa - always confirm the body, not just the chassis code.
Is a Nissan 200SX the same as a Silvia or a 180SX?
It depends on the era. A European S13-era 200SX is the 180SX hatchback rebadged for export. An Australian-delivered S14 or S15-era 200SX is the Silvia coupe rebadged. Confirm the generation before assuming which body a 200SX has.
Does an engine swap affect which front bumper fits my S13?
No. Fitment is governed by the body shell, not the engine. A CA18-to-SR20 or SR20-to-RB25 swap does not change which front bumper, side skirts or spoiler fit - those are determined by whether the car is a Silvia coupe or 180SX hatchback.
Are these genuine Type X, Uras or BN Sports parts?

Will it fit straight out of the box?
Expect trial fitting and adjustment before paint. Most S13s in Australia are private JDM imports with their own history of prior repairs and panel gaps, so professional adjustment is standard practice for any FRP bumper, not a sign something is wrong.
